Last night we were welcomed at Whorlton WI in Durham where we presented out ‘Tudor Talk’ at 7.30 pm.

Although the pretty village was snowy and dark we had a warm reception awaiting for us in the Village Hall.

We met a number of lovely of WI ladies from various groups in the area – who had come together for a special meeting – more than 50 members enjoyed our talk.

The Village Hall was a excellent setting for the event – it had great facilities and a lovely stage which provided a perfect setting for my costume display.

I was asked to judge the ‘Pomander ‘competition – all entries were lovely however I chose a pomander made of a beautifully decorated orange which was covered in cloves.  It not only looked very pretty – it smelt beautiful.

After our talk we enjoyed a lovely tea of sandwiches and cake with the ladies. King Henry VIII said ‘I can have my cake and eat it’ as he enjoyed the refreshments.  He proved a hit with ladies  – his arrival had been greeted with rapturous applause. His comely calves were also commented upon.

I was presented with a beautiful posy of snowdrops – very pretty flowers  – a portend of spring.

We have just received some lovely comment from the ladies who attended our talk – that included  ‘everyone said the talk was stupendous’ and ‘ I really enjoyed your costume talk at Whorlton WI‘.
