Today we presented an exciting talk for the University of the Third Age at Felling near Newcastle upon Tyne.
The hall is a large lovely spacious building with a fantastic stage for displaying our mannequins.
The talk included an appearance by the ever popular King Henry VIII wearing full regalia – he was greeted by rapturous applause.
I also talked about the design and construction of both my Queen Anne Boleyn costume and my Gold gown inspired by clothes worn by Elizabeth I.
Included were execution clothes worn by Mary Queen of Scots at Fotheringay and a selection of underwear.
Everyone enjoyed an entertaining and informative question and answer session after my talk.
Questions ranged from “where do I source my materials” to “what did the Tudors wear under their clothes” – I am always very happy to answer questions on a variety of subjects.
We also met some old friends we last saw at Crook Hall in Durham during a costume appearance – it was nice to see them again.
I would like to thank everyone – in particular Ray and Ann for their help and gracious hospitality -We were kindly supplied with refreshments before and after the talk.
I mustn’t forget to thank my son James who helped set up the display and took the excellent photographs I have included in this post.
Maria from the U3A kindly emailed me after the event to say “you were a huge success. All members enjoyed the afternoon and I know they asked lots of questions. I was at a U3A meeting today and everyone told me how fantastic you and your husband were” and “I do not think Gateshead U3A will forget your visit, it has made them all very happy”.
We all really enjoyed our fabulous afternoon in Felling.
