Jane Austen Talk

Regency Costume DisplayRegency Costume Talk with Display on Thursday 26th February 2015 St Mary Heritage Centre Gateshead.

Please come and join me for my Regency Costume Talk with display ‘Enter the World of Jane Austen’ next Thursday 26 February 2015 at  St Mary’s Heritage Centre next to the Sage in Gateshead.

St. Mary’s Heritage Centre is a unique and innovative visitor attraction incorporating libraries, arts and heritage in one venue.  Sitting high above the River Tyne close to The Sage Gateshead, the centre opened on the 16th December 2008 following a £1.2m transformation, funded by Gateshead Council, the European Regional Development fund and the heritage lottery fund.. St. Mary’s Heritage Centre welcomes visitors to learn the history of Gateshead, and provides a spectacular venue for my event.

I will present a very interesting, lively, humorous and informative lecture about the design and construction of gowns I have created inspired by the Regency period. Beautifully costumed mannequins/dummies will accompany the talk.  Included are an exquisite gold-encrusted court gown inspired by Empress Josephine, wife of Napoleon Bonaparte. A very pretty white cotton afternoon dress for Jane Austen worn with bonnet, chemisette and velvet spencer . Also included is  a sumptuous lilac silk ball gown embellished with gold lace – worn with a turban, fan and gloves  – a perfect outfit fit for the Netherfield Ball!  Underwear and accessories I have designed will also be included.

I will be assisted by a Regency Gentleman wearing a silk waistcoat, shirt, cravat and tailcoat.
