I will be presenting a Tudor Costume Lecture with Display at North Tyneside Library on Thursday 12th September 2013 at 7pm.
My very entertaining, lively and informative talk is about the design/construction of my historical gowns as well as a brief history of the people who wore them. We create a fabulous display of four Tudor costumes on mannequins dressed in exquisite gowns created of silk decorated with pearls, gold plated jewels and semi-precious stones with elaborate headdresses, jewellery and fans. These spectacular costumes include Elizabeth I and Anne Boleyn. A mannequin/dummy is undressed to reveal Tudor underwear – corset, chemise, bum roll and hoop farthingale. Integral to our talk is a magnificent appearance by a live model as King Henry VIII in full regalia talking about his life and times as King of England. Our talk is concluded with the dramatic disrobing of a dummy/mannequin dressed as Mary Queen of Scots wearing her execution gown. I remove her black/gold velvet robe to reveal a striking silk dress.
