Regency Costume Display
I am pleased to announce that we will be returning to Muncaster Castle next week to present two Regency Talks with Costume Display. They are called ‘Enter the World of Jane Austen’ and will take place on Thursday 28th and Friday 29th August 2015.
Julia Renaissance Costumes has also presented a number of Tudor Fashion Shows at Muncaster Castle in Cumbria in the past – it is a superb historical setting for my costumes.
The talks will be part of Muncaster Castle’s ‘Living History Week’ which takes place from 23 to 31 of August. Throughout the week Muncaster will have a range of history events to keep the whole family entertained! “If you thought that history was dusty and boring then think again; Living History Week brings the past to life with enthusiastic and knowledgeable re-enactors from across the centuries.”
Regency Costume Display
My talks with Costume Display talks are to be staged in the Magnificent Great Hall. My talk is called ‘Enter the World of Jane Austen – Regency Costume’ – A very interesting, lively, humorous and informative lecture about the design and construction of my gowns – they were inspired by costumes worn during the Regency period. Beautifully costumed mannequins will accompany the talk. Included are an ornate gold-encrusted court gown inspired by clothes worn by Empress Josephine, wife of Napoleon Bonaparte – A very pretty white cotton afternoon dress fit for Jane Austen worn with bonnet, chemisette and spencer. Also included is a pretty morning dress and a lilac silk ball gown embellished with gold and lilac guipure lace – it is worn with a turban, fan and gloves – a stunning outfit fit for the Netherfield Ball! A morning gown, underwear and accessories worn during this period will also be included. There will also be a personal appearance by a Regency Gentleman wearing his new outfit consisting of a frock-coat , breeches, waistcoat and cravat.
Muncaster Castle has a history of ghosts and the supernatural and we will be staying overnight in the lovely Coachman’s Quarters – I will let you know if I encounter anything unexplained – so watch this space!
