The Stadium of Light

Today we presented our event  ‘ Look at the Tudor’s Costumes’ at the fabulous Stadium of Light in Sunderland for the Towns Women’s Guild. It was a National Event – ladies from as far north as Northumberland and as far south as Dorset all attended.

The Riverview Suite on the third floor was a lovely venue with excellent facilities.  The talk was fully booked with over 100 tickets sold however as it proved to be so popular in the end of 150 ladies attended and the Guild mentioned they still had people waiting for tickets – I am so pleased my event has proved so popular.

The day started with a beautiful two course lunch to which we were cordially invited.  We sat with the lovely ladies of the guild and enjoyed a fabulous meal. Chicken breast rolled in pancetta with root vegetables in an tempting sauce. It was followed by dessert   – although I opted for the fruit salad not surprisingly my portly husband as King Henry VIII chose delicious sticky toffee pudding in butterscotch sauce- we finished it all with coffee and mints. It was very kind of the ladies to invite us – we certainly enjoyed it.

I also managed to see inside the fabulous Stadium. Although I am not a football fan I thought I mustn’t miss an opportunity .  I was able to sit albeit briefly in the Directors box – what a fabulous view – the size of the Stadium certainly took my breath way! The seats are very comfortable and have a shelf underneath which contains a luxury rug which you can use during matches to keep your legs warm!

I had a wonderful time presenting my talk – the ladies said they really enjoyed it. My final costume was inspired by the execution garments worn by Mary Queen of Scots  – whilst describing the horror of her execution we experienced very eerie feedback from the microphone which added to the effect.  I was also happy to answer questions afterwards and the ladies were able to examine the costumes in detail.

I mentioned  my new talk about Queen Marie Antoinette which is currently in production. I have already designed and made the underwear for Marie Antoinette and am currently sewing a ‘La Reine Chemise’ . I hope the talk will be ready by the  New Year.  I think it will prove to be extremely popular as I have already received a lot of enquiries.

I had a super day at the Stadium of Light – not only did I manage to see inside the Stadium itself – I also had a wonderful meal with lovely people and really enjoyed presenting my talk.

I would like to thank the staff at the Stadium who were so helpful – in particular Danielle, Bill and Michael.

I mustn’t forget Janice at the Town women’s Guild who booked me – without all her hard work and dedication the event wouldn’t have been possible. I would like to thank her for her kind hospitality and assistance today – thank you Janice I had a wonderful time!
